a clean, simple site that could adapt and interface with any type of content.
Nissan's brief was to develop a clean, simple site that could adapt and interface with any type of content. Taking cue from 'Google Material' design principles; considerable thought was put into the 'life' of pages and content by using subtle design hints with regards to topics, type and author info.
Working closely with a 3rd party (responsible for the backend and markup), it was my role to ensure that CSS/JS development was carried out accordingly to the latest TMW coding conventions. To support consistency, a Style Guide was developed between myself and the lead designer which was then referenced during design of pages, modules and components. This was then fed into our bootstrap via SASS variables to form the CSS base.
Whilst making sure I enhanced the experience for evergreen browsers the site is still supporting of older versions plus being responsive in every aspect from using SVG's to page speed.
Built in Drupal using the Panopoly distribution, a custom theme was created supported by Grunt for all SASS and JavaScript compilation. SVG's were exported for all iconography using Sketch.
A tricky project to manage due to the build team being based in Shanghai as well as the difference in timezone, however a great chance to really delve into Material principles.
This approach really appealed to the client due to the familiarity of design and functional conventions.
